On Staten Island, unleashed dogs are among the 311 complaints.  But, man’s best friend did not have to bark over that this weekend.

Both canine amateurs and athletes of varying pedigree completed a three-day competition on Sunday.  About 300 Purebred and Mixed Bred dogs had the opportunity to compete in beginner, sub-novice and more-advanced competitions, unleashed.

The American Kennel Club sponsored the Staten Island Companion Dog Training Club “Fall Agility” trial at Midland Beach Sports Field for the weekend 31 October-2 November.

I followed New Jersey native Lisa Guthner as she competed with her black miniature poodle, Misty, for the more-advanced portion of the Staten Island dog competition, the “jumpers with weaves” course.

All dogs participating in the more-advanced portion of the competition must be able to successfully pass these exercises while off-leash.

Sunday marked the end of a three-day “Fall Agility” dog obedience competition.
