Google tips
For advanced searching, GoogleGuide.com has a great list of operators to limit your results. Western Kentucky University Libraries has a table of advanced search commands for Google and other search engines. Google also has its own basic and advanced search help pages, as well as a cheat sheet. I recommend giving the “site:” command a spin.
PC World published a good piece in December 2007. The New York Times had a more recent rundown of some Google bells and whistles.
A WNBC reporter and Columbia Journalism Prof has a nice tips page. Check out Google Trends and the “Get Directions” feature on Google Maps, which includes NYC public transit. TechCrunch also has some good tips on navigating Google’s street view.
Search Engine Showdown has a useful review of Google.
