Almost a perfect tribute to Yankee Stadium…

Most Yankee fans agree that the farewell to Yankee stadium on Sunday night was a memorable tribute.  Even if you didn’t watch the farewell ceremony Sunday and aren’t a Yankee fan, you can read this nostalgic essay by Billy Crystal (and there are other links on the left to more essays) to get a sense of what Yankee stadium embodies to its fans. 

But since Sunday night, others have pointed out that something was missing from the ceremony.  Or rather, two people were missing.  Both Joe Torre and Roger Clemens, two Yankee greats, were completely excluded, for different reasons, from any mention in the pre-game ceremonies. (more…)

The building may be yellow, but Brooklyn Children’s Museum is really “Green”

The Brooklyn Children Museum held a ribbon-cutting ceremony Wednesday to unveil the newly renovated building, which doubled in size and features all new exhibits.  

While the museum boasts about it’s new exhibits, they are not what impressed me most.  After all, I am not in the 6 month-12 year age range that they are aimed it.  What did impress me, however, was the fact that the museum is New York City’s first “green” museum, certified by the Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design program of the U.S. Green Building Council. Careful, Enfranchising Ex-Felons Might Swing the Vote

On Wednesday morning the New York Civil Liberties Union held a press conference to launch their campaign to help ex-felons restore their right to vote. The campaign includes bus ads in NYC, train ads in Syracuse and Buffalo, and public service ads on the radio throughout the state.

The NYCLU reiterated the fact that 5.3 million Americans are disenfranchised due to a felony conviction.

Well theoretically speaking, if a large enough percentage of those disenfranchised voters were able to register before the November election, would they be able to sway the presidential race one way or another?

Turns out there are people actually worried about this.
